Senior Computer Vision Engineer – Industrial Visual Inspection (5+ Years)

We are looking for a Senior Computer Vision Engineer to design, develop, and deploy end-to-end AI-based visual inspection systems for manufacturing environments. The role requires strong hands-on experience across camera systems, lighting, hardware accelerators, and advanced computer vision algorithms, with full ownership from inspection concept to production deployment.
The position supports local projects in India as well as global Rosenberger manufacturing and quality initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement complete industrial visual inspection solutions, including:

  • Camera, lens, and sensor selection, Lighting concept and setup (in collaboration with Process engineering and Machine Vision department)
  • Image acquisition and synchronization

Develop computer vision solutions for:

  • Automated quality inspection
  • Defect detection and classification
  • Dimensional measurement and visual compliance checks

Define and execute the full computer vision lifecycle:

  • Data acquisition and dataset design
  • Image labeling and annotation strategies, including quality control
  • Model training, validation, deployment, and continuous improvement

Apply supervised, unsupervised, and semi-supervised learning approaches, including:

  • Defect classification
  • Anomaly and novelty detection for rare or unknown defects

Design, train, and optimize state-of-the-art computer vision models, such as:

  • CNN-based architectures
  • Vision Transformers and modern hybrid approaches

Optimize AI models for edge deployment and real-time performance using hardware accelerators

Collaborate with production, quality, automation, and IT teams across global Rosenberger locations

Ensure robustness of solutions under real-world industrial conditions

Document system designs and support global rollout and scaling

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:

  • Computer Science
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Robotics
  • Electrical / Mechatronics Engineering
  • or related technical field

5+ years of hands-on experience in computer vision for industrial or real-world applications

Strong programming skills in:

  • Python
  • C++ (preferred for performance-critical components)

Proven experience with:

  • OpenCV
  • TensorFlow and/or PyTorch

Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art computer vision architectures, such as:

  • Vision Transformers (ViT, Swin)
  • Modern object detection and segmentation frameworks (YOLO, Mask R-CNN, SAMstyle approaches)
  • Contrastive and self-supervised learning methods

Solid understanding of:

  • Image processing fundamentals
  • Object detection, segmentation, and classification
  • Camera calibration and geometric vision

Ability to evaluate and adapt latest research and industry best practices to real-world industrial constraints

Experience working with noisy, unstructured, and imperfect industrial data

Ability to independently design and deliver end-to-end inspection systems

Strongly Preferred / Key Differentiators

Hands-on experience with industrial vision hardware:

  • Area-scan and line-scan cameras
  • Optics, resolution and field-of-view trade-offs
  • Triggering and synchronization

Experience with edge AI and hardware acceleration:

  • NVIDIA Jetson, GPU-based systems
  • TensorRT, OpenVINO, ONNX Runtime

Knowledge of machine vision lighting techniques

Experience deploying AI models in production manufacturing environments

Exposure to:

  • Active learning or semi-automatic annotation
  • MLOps and model lifecycle management
  • PLC, MES, or industrial automation integration
